Timeline

The Space On Main filled with a community of diverse entrepreneurs, remote workers, nonprofits, creatives, and students. In addition to membership, we host a wide variety of programming for people of all ages. We exist to connect people to resources and to each other.

  • WIN 2016

    AN IDEA WAS SHARED

    An idea was shared and The Space was born.

  • JAN 2017

    INCORPORATED

    The Space On Main, Inc. was officially incorporated.

  • SPR 2017

    INFORMATION GATHERING

    Monique attended the Global Coworking Conference in NYC and toured coworking and makerspaces all over VT and NH.

  • JUL 2017

    IRS DETERMINATION

    The Space On Main received 501(c)(3) tax exempt status.

  • DEC 2017

    JACK & DOROTHY BYRNE CHALLENGE DONATION

    We sent our first appeal letter which resulted in a $5,000 donation and a matching challenge of $20,000 from The Jack & Dorothy Byrne Foundation. (Which resulted in, “This might just work.”)

  • SPR 2018

    OUTREACH & PLANNING

    We dove into outreach, floor layouts, fundraising, budgets, construction estimates, Fiber pricing, received several more grants, etc. (read: learned a bunch of new skills and met lots of awesome people).

  • JUN 2018

    VERMONT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANT

    We received a $25,000 Regional & Local Impact Opportunity Grant from Vermont Community Foundation as well as other generous funds from local donors, like you!

  • SUM 2018

    THE REAL WORK BEGAN

    Additional donations were gathered, software was demoed, construction progressed, furniture was built, paint was picked, and progress sped forward in a million different concurrent directions.

  • OCT 2018

    THE SPACE WAS LAUNCHED

    The Space opened its doors on October 12, 2018 with the support of community members, family, and friends.

  • MAR 2020

    WE SHUT DOWN FOR COVID

    Just as people were starting to fill The Space on a regular basis, we had to shut down for the global pandemic, Covid-19.

  • FAL 2020

    WE SLOWLY CRAWLED BACK

    Due to Covid-19, we completely closed down for 3 months and limped along for months after that. Thanks to the support of Vermont Community Foundation, Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, and community supporters, we were able to remain open.

  • JAN 2022

    WE HIRED OUR FIRST EMPLOYEE

    Prior to 2022, Monique had been administering The Space On Main on a volunteer basis. Hiring our first employee allowed us to really dig into community programming, marketing, and grant applications.

  • SPR 2022

    NEW PROGRAMS LAUNCHED

    Due to having a full-time employee, we have been able to ramp up programming. This includes entrepreneurship and small business programming, youth programs, community programs, and more.
